King Hamad University Hospital to launch new app to help young diabetics

King Hamad University Hospital is set to launch a major project next month to benefit young paediatric patients with diabetes.

It consists of implanting electronic chips in a child’s arm linked to a smartphone app which enables parents to read blood sugar levels within minutes and at any time.

This will reduce hospital admissions and diabetic complications.

The launch of the project will coincide with World Diabetes Day celebrations next month and will be introduced, initially, in the Muharraq Governorate, hospital’s commander Major General Dr Shaikh Salman bin Ateyatalla Al Khalifa said yesterday.

The continuous monitoring device is one of the world’s latest medical technologies that provides an accurate reading of glucose levels in children at any time of the day, trends and alerts, through an electronic app in their parents’ cell phones, he said.
