The highlight of my journalistic career came during the Formula One at Sakhir a couple of years ago.
I was approached by a young lad, who couldn't have been more than 14, who beamed at me and asked:
"Are you the film guy?!"
It's nice to know someone read my work, nevermind recognised me for it! What's better, he actually liked my reviews (which was a welcome change if the GulfWeekly letters inbox was to be believed!) and said he chose his viewings based on my recommendations.
Well, anonymous young man, you'll be delighted to know that I'm back in the critic's chair, armed with a trusty soft drink and bucket of popcorn (sweet, not salty)!
Thanks to my friend Mahmood Jagbeer at Cineco, I'll be bringing you a review of the biggest releases every week exclusively on GDNLife. As anyone who knows me can attest, you'll always get an honest review from me. If a film is poor, there will be no sugar coating it and if it's excellent, I'll let you know in the most effervescent way possible.
Sadly, I will have to find a new home for my silver screen treats since Saar Cinema closed down during my hiatus. Does anybody have recommendations for which other cinemas are best to attend? I miss its peacefulness away from crowded malls dearly.
