The Gorgeous Partnach Gorge

It was 12 July 2016 was so special.  It was cold.  It was 10 degrees.  It rained heavily.  I was co-leading a group of tourists at Garmisch-Partenkirchen in the Bavarian region of Germany.  We were visiting the Partnach Gorge or Partnachklamm, as they call it in German.  I deliberately did not do any research on this Must-See Attraction.  It was my first visit to it, and I wanted to be enchanted, just like our passengers.  Our bus dropped us next to the Winter Olympic Slide Stadium.  And we began our march.

The magic began in a few minutes.  The beautiful Alps Mountains surrounded us.  The Green lush meadows were all around us.  And as we walked, we enjoyed the views of the mighty stream on our right side.  The sound of the flowing water was so soothing.  We continued walking until we reached the only public toilets in the area.  We encouraged all the passengers to use them before continuing our hike.  We reached the tickets booth.  The price of the tick was EUR 6.  It is was definitely worth it.

By this time, I thought this experience was exhilarating so far.  And I can’t wait to get into the tunnel leading to the end of the Gorge.  As a tall and bald person, I had to be very careful inside the Gorge.  Its height was only 175 CM.  The surface of the ceiling was edgy and sharp.  It could easily result in cuts and injuries if you don’t pay enough attention.  Add to that, it was slippery due to its unpaved floor and the rain.  However, despite all of these conditions, I continued to marvel at this natural wonder taking many pictures and videos.

And when we finished walking through the darkness of the tunnel, we saw the light and delight.  It was gorgeous.  So far, it is one of the best natural attractions I visited in my life.  No words can describe it.  You need to be there to experience it.  No matter how I describe it, I will not do justice to it.  You need to immerse yourself in the experience.  Walking through the tunnel.  Taking a 360 Degree look when you leave the tunnel.  Walking down to the stream.  Taking a few sips of the fresh and cold water.  And perhaps, if you love nature like me, take off your shoes, walk in the stream.  Feel the freezing water.

This experience was the highlight of our 12-day tour.  And we still talk about it until today.  I’ve been there three times.  And I can’t wait to revisit it—this time I want to visit it during the winter.  I want to see the snow and the ice on trees and the rocks.

Go there, and you’ll thank me later!
