Chamber reviews virus impact on businesses

CRUNCH talks were held by business owners to discuss ways to mitigate the impact of the Coronavirus disease (Covid-19) on the national economy.

Members of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) committees discussed a wide range of recommendations, led by BCCI chairman Sameer Nass.

This included waiving government fees, expediting shipment of basic goods, and co-ordinating with banks to extend credit facility to traders.

“A number of vital recommendations were considered which will be raised to the bodies concerned,” said BCCI first vice-chairman Khalid Najibi.

“These included identifying essential medical and food products required during this period and urging authorities to expedite their imports.”

Mr Najibi said they further recommended offering incentives to businessmen to have enough stock, and co-ordinate with banks to extend credit facility.

“We are also suggesting compensating business owners for the premium they pay for expediting the shipment of basic goods,” he added.

Additionally, the BCCI called for government fees exemption, and extending the execution period for real-estate and construction projects.
