A BAHRAINI man has volunteered to pick up and deliver food and groceries to the elderly and people unable to visit supermarkets in the current situation, writes the GDN's Reem Al Daaysi.
Mohammed Khalifa, aged 34, also said he was ready to shoulder the cost of items for people facing financial problems.
Posting his number on Twitter, the father-of-three urged citizens and residents in Riffa and Isa Town to call him if they needed help shopping, and he would deliver their goods free of charge.
Urging youngsters to launch the same initiative in their own neighbourhoods, Mr Khalifa said it was “our national duty to stand with Bahrain in this time”.
“It is our duty as Bahrainis to extend a helping hand to anyone on our land especially given the extraordinary circumstances that we are going through,” he told the GDN.
“Even people who don’t have the money to pay for their items, I’m more than prepared to shoulder the cost because these are times that require unity and solidarity.
“I welcome calls from all over Bahrain – I only specified Riffa and Isa Town because I live nearby – and I want the younger people to take up this initiative in their own neighbourhoods.
“We can all survive these circumstances and rise together.”
However, he underlined the importance of adhering to safety measures while handling the goods, such as wearing gloves and a mask and undertaking disinfection procedures.
He also stressed that he was prepared to help any person in need from all over Bahrain – both citizens and residents.
“In Bahrain, our solidarity and unity have always been strong; we don’t need extraordinary circumstances to stand together as we have always been united,” he added.
“Our government is also working hand-in-hand with us and these extraordinary circumstances we are going through are just secondary as we have always been united in solidarity regardless of our circumstances.”
