The RESET button

It’s that time in everyone’s life where the emotions/feelings that a person experiences in a day range between reassuring optimism to extreme paranoia. The news (especially unverified information doing the rounds on social media), though originally meant to spread awareness, seems bleak and disheartening at times.

As far as the news about Bahrain goes, it is evident that the authorities in-charge are putting in tremendous efforts towards curtailing the spread of the dreaded COVID-19.  The continuous updates on the status of testing, number of positive/stable/discharged/critical/deceased cases, precautions advised for businesses/individuals, contact tracing and so on and so forth have been regular, precise and reassuring. Most of the organizations have made it possible for a fair share of their staff to work from home. Home! That’s where they say the heart is!

COVID-19 and everything that we are facing in its wake seem like Mother Nature’s fury towards mankind. Reports from around the world state that so many (otherwise absent) animals are roaming deserted streets. News from Venice says there are dolphins and swans in the now pollution-free water. Whales were spotted off the Bombay High. Peacocks were seen in London. The Ozone layer is supposedly recovering.  Some of the most polluted cities are reporting cleaner air quality.

So many aspects of our daily life have now changed. So many myths busted! Remote working IS POSSIBLE for so many professions. It is now undeniable that financial status, ethnicity, gender etc. are all irrelevant when it comes to facing something like the COVID-19.  We have come to believe that the human race is invincible and all powerful. This is a reminder that a virus that is invisible to the naked eye can lead to such havoc. Kindness, compassion, empathy, unity and showing respect to Mother Nature are what will help us sustain and move forward to a better tomorrow.

In today’s world, where humans are used to living an automated life run by the clock, the “COVID-19 Pause” mode is an opportunity to hit the RESET button.  It is an opportunity for every one of us to find a way to do much better than we have been doing all this while. This is a valuable lesson learnt in the hard way that no amount of voicing opinions, supporting causes, signing petitions etc. on social media is enough. Each and every human being needs .to show responsibility towards protecting the environment. It is the small things that make the biggest changes possible.  Hope we remember this difficult time when things get back to normal in the future. Hope we do not end up repeating the same mistakes all over again. It is now time to lead the future generations by example. It is now time to work towards creating a better tomorrow for everyone.
