Bahrain sharing its experience...

BAHRAIN is sharing its experience with high recovery rates with the neighbouring countries, while it is also adopting best practices from across the globe, said Covid-19 Taskforce member Dr Jameela Al Salman, the GDN reported today.

She also assured that there were no major side effects reported from the use of hydroxychloroquine on Covid-19 patients in the country.

Bahrain was one of the first countries to administer hydroxychloroquine to treat active Covid-19 cases.

The medicine is both anti-malarial and anti-inflammatory, used to treat auto-immune disorders such as lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.

“We started using hydroxychloroquine with the first case in Bahrain and it proved that it helps clinically and could reduce the number of symptoms.”

Dr Al Salman was speaking at a Press conference held last night at the Crown Prince Centre for Training and Medical Research at the BDF Hospital.

Also present were Health Minister Faeqa Al Saleh, Industry, Commerce and Tourism Minister Zayed Alzayani and National Taskforce for Combating Covid-19 Monitoring Committee head Lieutenant Colonel Dr Manaf Al Qahtani.

“We are in contact with the neighbouring countries who would like to learn from our experiences.

“And we would like to learn from them as well so there is an exchange of expertise.”

Meanwhile, Ms Saleh assured that all medical services including vaccination for children were ongoing in the health centres and hospitals.

She noted that cases of certain chronic disease patients were being addressed, while certain cases that are not urgent were postponed.

There are four health centres available 24x7 and any case not related to Covid-19 could be referred here, she added.
