Trained volunteers will soon be out in force inspecting markets as efforts are stepped up to ensure safe and smooth operations amidst the outbreak of Covid-19, writes the GDN's Raji Unnikrishnan.
Industry, Commerce and Tourism Minister Zayed Alzayani said yesterday that the move comes under the directive of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister.
The volunteers are being trained on the use of personal protection equipment including face masks and on social distancing.
“They will continue inspections at shops round the week to ensure the safety and necessary guidelines are followed,” said the minister in a statement.
“They will also be monitoring the sale of fruit and vegetables, in terms of inspecting if they are handled carefully and there is no illegal price hike.
“The volunteers will help to cover larger areas throughout the week.”
