2020's litter of choice: The Disposable Plastic Glove

Yesterday I collected 21 gloves on a very short stretch of road near to where I live while walking my dog.

This morning I only collected 12 on the same route and was quite happy at the reduced number until I realised why....

The fabulous street cleaner had been there before me.  There were at 'best guess'  25-30 more in the grey bin that he had swept up off the lane...

Now the probability of there being any COVID-19 virus on the gloves is small - well I don't know for sure but I hope so for the wellbeing of the street cleaner.

BUT by the end of 2020 if we, yes you and your friends, family, work colleagues and neighbours, continue to throw these gloves on the ground rather than disposing of them correctly, then the wildlife and the environment is going to have a HUGE problem, not just locally but worldwide: the wind will take them off to distant lands and into seas.

It's easy to do the right thing.

(1) Pull one glove off by turning it inside out so you don't touch the potentially contaminated side.

(2) Use the now inside-out glove to remove the glove on your other hand.

(3) Place both either directly in a bin with a lid on - supermarkets, malls and shops please provide bins.

Or (4) Put your gloves in a reusable container in your car - such as an empty ice cream or yogurt pot which has a lid and dispose of the gloves when you get home.

(5) And don't forget to wash your hands for 20 seconds when you get home and sanitise the container with a splash of chlorox or similar (if you have used a container).

Be safe!   Follow all government social distancing and mask wearing guidelines.  And when you do have to go out for an essential trip BAG IT BIN IT BAHRAIN! #bagitbinitbahrain

Or if you can't be bothered with disposing of the gloves safely #stayathome.

Be well everyone!
