Major disinfection drive

A TOTAL of 1,130 labour camps and workplaces have been disinfected as part of efforts to contain the spread of the Coronavirus Disease (Covid-19), the GDN reported today.

Labour and Social Development Minister Jameel Humaidan affirmed the ministry’s efforts in continuing to monitor private establishments to ensure they are following proper procedures enforced to combat the disease.

“A total of 593 labour camps were disinfected under supervision of the ministry.

“In addition, a specially designated quarantine facility was set up at these places.

“The ministry visited 537 workplaces in establishments to ensure they had carried out disinfection procedures.”

Mr Humaidan urged companies to allow their staff to work remotely from home, to ensure the number of labourers are reduced at the workplace but without affecting production.

He also revealed that more than 300,000 leaflets were distributed among labourers to raise awareness about the disease.

“Companies are checking the temperatures of their staff before they enter the workplace in addition to placing sanitisers for staff to use.

“The workers are also being told to keep a safe distance and made aware of social distancing.

“We handed out more than 300,000 leaflets in different languages to raise awareness among 350,000 migrant workers.”
