Total Covid-19 cases in Bahrain reach 1,116



CONTACT tracing details of another 106 coronavirus (Covid-19) cases in Bahrain have been updated, taking the total number of officially announced cases to 1,116, writes the GDN's Raji Unnikrishnan.

According to the Health Ministry, of the total cases, 542 are Bahrainis, while remaining 574 are expats including Indians (318), Bangladeshis (130), Nepalis (58), Saudis (19), Pakistani (17), Egyptians (five), Kuwaitis (four), British (three), Americans (three), Spanish (two), Filipino (two) and one each are Lebanese, Jordanian, Thai, Portuguese, Sri Lankan, Greek, French, Iraqi, Iranian, Algerian, Bulgarian, Slovak, and Omani.

Details of 28 cases are yet to be updated (cases 1122 to 1149, 1017, 756, 822, 824, 834, 997 and 998).

The new updates include four cases (1058, 1040, 1085 and 1121) which were tested positive from random samples in the community.

Contact tracing of the Bangladeshi men, aged 34 and 35, an Indian man, aged 24, and a 35-year-old Bahraini man is ongoing.

The list also featured the first non-Bahraini (case 1059) to return from Iran as part of the government’s International Covid-19 Repatriation Programme (ICRP).

The 52-year-old Pakistani, whose gender has not been identified, arrived on March 30 and was tested positive in quarantine.

One more Bahraini man, 62 (case 1088), has been linked to a contact from the Jannusan ma’atam (case 240).

Two cases (817 and 820) emerged the most featured in the contact tracing, who were positive after developing symptoms.

Twenty-one people including six Bangladeshis and 15 Indians contracted the virus from the 36-year-old Indian (case 817).

Another 19 people including six Bangladeshis and 13 Indians contracted from a 29-year-old Bangladeshi man (case 820).

A Bangladeshi man, 32 years (case 908), who was tested positive while under quarantine in Al Eker emerged the contact for 12 other expat men (10 Indians and two Bangladeshis).

Another Bangladeshi man, 40 years (case 901), who was tested positive after developing symptoms emerged contact for seven other fellow nationals.

Yet another person (case 846), an Indian, 34, who was tested positive after developing symptoms is linked to seven others – four Indian men (cases 898, 1024, 1052, 1057), an Indian female, 36 years (case 897), a Bahraini man, 57 years (case 900), and a Nepali man, 38 (case 1038).

A Nepali man (case 885), 35, who was tested positive after developing symptoms also is linked to five people – two Indians, two Nepalis and one Pakistani.

Most of the expats are labourers who were in quarantine in Nuwaidrat, Salmabad, Al Eker and Sitra.

Contact tracing is ongoing for all these cases.

Meanwhile, 76 new cases of Covid-19 were registered in Bahrain yesterday.

Of these, 51 are migrant workers, three from contacts, seven from abroad and the remaining unspecified, said the ministry.

The active cases are 1,497 of which two remain critical.

Another 29 people recovered and left treatment and isolation facilities taking the total to 1,218.

A total of 117,797 people have been tested in the country so far.
