Food aid drive benefiting under-privileged families in Bahrain

Thousands of under-privileged families in Bahrain are benefiting from a food aid drive launched by the Bahrain Red Crescent Society for Ramadan, the GDN reported today.

Volunteers have been delivering the in-kind assistance to nearly 4,500 families registered with the society during the evening, saving them the trouble of visiting its headquarters to pick up the aid due to the precautionary measures in place to limit the spread of the Coronavirus Disease (Covid-19).

The distribution schedule included 73 locations across the four governorates with specific days allocated for each area ensuring a smooth distribution process.

Volunteers distributed the aid after Iftar wearing masks and gloves while also ensuring social distancing.

“The distribution of aid in these difficult circumstances comes as further evidence of the BRCS’ endeavour to support the Bahraini community,” said BRCS social services committee head Adel Aljar.

“Reaching more than 4,000 homes in various regions of Bahrain is not easy, but we accepted this challenge as part of our active contribution to national efforts to tackle Covid-19.”

Meanwhile, BRCS director general and acting general secretary Mubarak Al Hadi praised the volunteers’ efforts.

“They worked tirelessly to distribute aid to under-privileged families despite all the challenges, including the difficulty of reaching many families whose addresses have changed, and the need to strictly adhere to the precautionary measures to prevent Covid-19,” he said.

“Delivering this aid requires double the efforts of the BRCS to fulfil its obligations.

“We urge companies, institutions, individuals and well-wishers to come forward and support the community’s under-privileged segment and ensure the success of the aid programme.”
