Food is essential for living and without it we cannot survive.
During this year's Ramadan and EID, there were no big buffets and no Ramadan tents with big gatherings and of course much less food wastage than usual.
We all love food. Anyone, anywhere you ask, he or she likes eating and food in one way or another. Different varieties, different kinds and different ways of preparation give us endless stream of food and delicacy. But, since we all love food, why don’t we respect the food the way it deserves?
The whole chain from planting/seeding, watering, treatment, harvesting, transportation and preparation till it reaches our plates is a massive effort from different people. It requires different resources and a variety of tools and equipment till it looks mouthwatering and is ready for eating.
Approximately 4 billion tons of food is produced every year and 1/3, which is 1.3 billion tons is wasted. What a shame !!!
A lot of food does not even reach your plate and is already thrown during the process of the food production chain. All the effort - just gone to the waste bin.
We have to treat food with the respect it deserves and the work of all the people involved as well. Imagine someone would throw your work regardless of your effort and value into the bin….you for sure did not want that to happen. So why do we do it with food which is an essential part of our life and mandatory for living.
The buffet sign say: EAT AS MUCH AS YOU CAN……but never PUT AS MUCH ON THE PLATE AS YOU CAN.
Take what you need, otherwise you are wasting precious resources, work and energy for nothing. FOOD has VALUE.
Lots of poor people suffer from hunger and many just throw it away.
