There has perhaps never been a better time than now to try to eat a more healthy diet that gives your body all the micro-nutrients it needs to fortify your immune system.

While turmeric is a nutritious and flavourful spice to consume, it has also been used for centuries in Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine to treat inflammatory conditions, for pain relief and to improve digestion. Curcumin is the active ingredient in turmeric and it has powerful antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects, especially when consumed with black pepper. Combining the spices magnifies their effects because the piperine in black pepper greatly enhances curcumin's absorption by the body. 

Making a delicious curry is a great way to incorporate turmeric into your diet. There are as many types of curry powder as there are curry recipes but most of them contain a mixture of turmeric, chili powder, ground coriander, ground cumin, ground ginger and pepper. Turmeric is a key ingredient and it is turmeric’s bright yellow colour that gives curry powder its characteristic colour.
