Teaching Online During Covid-19

February 25th, I think that was the day when I had kids in my class last time! Being a preschool / early years educator, our hands are always full. We love having cute little humans in our classes. We love those letters from our students where they had written that you are the best teacher ever & how they love you!! Or a simple drawing of hearts & many other things (I have too many guys, I always try to keep them safe .. some memories 😀) . The progress you see in those young kids during classes gives you such proud feelings. You go home tired as hell but your hearts are full of gratitude. You knew tht you made a positive impact on those young minds!!
A week back, I attended an online workshop (everything's online these days 😉😀) conducted by British Council (do check their website they always have some amazing workshops & courses for educators of all levels) . The topic was "Challenges of Remote Learning & Teacher Resilience". It was attended by teachers all around the world. While listening to them, I felt blessed that Bahrain implemented E-learning effectively & promptly during the pandemic!
Now let's see what were some of the difficulties we faced while shifting our classes online. First we have to understand that whatever new is done, its going to be challenging at first but things gets better eventually. You try.. you fail & you try again until you succeed!! That was the case here as well while we started teaching online. Never in their wildest dreams one would have thought to teach online specially early years!! Early years are all about hands on teaching & one on one interactive sessions. But desperate times calls for desperate measures!! (something is better than nothing .. right?!) I'm a firm believer of learning .. I believe in learning, unlearning & learning again. This time teachers had to learn how to engage those young kids during online sessions and learn to interact with them remotely. None the less, the last academic year was something else! It taught us so many new things & we learned how to incorporate technology into our teachings! However, this academic year would never be completed successfully without the input & hardwork of our parents. They had to play the role of teacher as well. Teaching is truly teamwork. Teachers together with parents make a great team for the betterment of the early years students.
We don't know how the next year will be. But I have a firm belief that what may come we will be able to bounce back. That's what resilience is all about. Sending out love to all the kinder students, their parents & the teachers. We missed the students in our classes & we hope to see them soon 💖
