Yoga isn’t meant for me’
‘Yoga is very slow’
The most common misconception that people have about yoga is that it is done in an exotic place with slow music and this comes from people who have never tried yoga.
Spirituality in yoga is what makes it unique from any other form of fitness activity and that’s what led me to take this path. I feel that when someone says ‘yoga isn’t for me’ he wasn’t able to get in touch with his spiritual side while practicing what I call ‘Inner Yogi’.
Your inner yogi is your best guide, coach or mentor who gets intuitions. It can never want anything bad for you. Once you find this yogi you will no longer need external help you will be at peace at all times.
Yoga should be treated like any other subject like Science or History. Hence, we teachers have a huge responsibility of not only introducing it to it but also guiding you to feel the experience. In the context of yoga what I am trying to explain is that:-
1. There are various forms of yoga with so many teachers teaching various styles.
2. Just by attending one yoga session with a single teacher you might be able to get the spiritual experience
Hence you should continuously explore until you find the teacher that resonates with you .There will be instances where even teachers trained under the same Institute will have different styles of teaching and only you can figure out what style appeals to the Yogi in you.
Earlier I used to get really worked up about these misconceptions. I made my peace when I came across this quote, “You cannot want something for someone more than they want it for themselves and beat yourself up about it.” Now I have started to believe that only when the time is right people will be able to start their journey in this search.
And while you read this, think about this ‘is this the right time for me to start my journey towards finding my inner yogi?’
