SAFETY- A habitual behaviour

Are you a person who had a narrow escape from crucial accidents that could have happened in your day-to-day life and had a second thought of avoiding those if you were in a conscious mind?

Yes, such a condition is a frequent phenomenon in our life; yet many of us won't pay our attention to it. The foremost thing that should come to our mind when we perceive the word 'safety' is all about consciousness or living in the present. The practice of conscious living is possible only with 7-8 hours of sound sleep and a healthy diet.

A Stanford University study shows how multitasking adds stress to our lives and negatively affects our concentration, motivation and productivity. This inability to concentrate can impact your professional life, personal growth and relationships.

In professional life, reduce undue haste in carrying out duties by employing a daily work planner supported by a time planner, which may help in the effective utilisation of time available.

Spending a few minutes on preparing a planner for the day in the morning will contribute to a great extent to complete all works expected to carry out on that day.

On the work front, when you notice something unsafe, it is the duty and moral responsibility of each employee to report the same to higher authorities.

Each employee should be aware of their surrounding hazards and risks that may occur in their workplace. Several accidents or fatalities may happen when employees compromise on prior warnings or alerts from their management.

No matter how large or small an organisation is, the primary concern should be on employee health and safety. The HSE(Health, Safety, and Environment) department has to conduct regular workplace inspections and report any unhealthy conditions for further corrective actions.

Saying "drive safe" sounds casual and informal, but before one gets behind the steering wheel of a two-ton frame of glass and steel, one should be aware of the defensive driving mechanism.

Listing out some of the vital defensive driving skills :

1. Follow the traffic signals and focus on the task at hand

2. Always buckle up your seatbelts while driving four-wheelers and wear helmets without fail while riding two-wheelers.

3. Keep a distance between your vehicle and other motorists.

4. Maintain your vehicle properly and always check the wear and tear of the tyres.

5. Talking on the phone while driving will divert our focus.

Safety practices should be supervised at home, as no one knows your home better than you. Good housekeeping is a must that should be practiced daily.

Extra care should be exercised when small children or toddlers are present in your family, especially when they play with their little toys. Make sure that laundry cleaners, medicines, sharpened objects should be kept out of reach of kids.

Elderly safety is also a vital aspect. Along with practicing good housekeeping, senior citizens should be aware of cyberattacks. Nowadays, many scammers target the elderly to know their personal information, bank information, and credit card numbers. Scammers may approach the elderly with all kinds of schemes taking advantage of the isolation and ease of approach.

Always discuss with any of the family members regarding such doubtful instances before jumping into actions.

Safety always starts with us. By making safety a habit, will positively impact your family as a team and eventually contribute to society and hence to the nation as a whole.

                                    "Safety isn't expensive, it's priceless."
