Chase your Dreams!
I still remember the first day of my college life how the negative energies surround me and disappointed me.
I was so upset as people around me; my friends, some of my school teachers, and family members expressed how unfortunate it was that I decided to be a teacher.
They said they had wished a better future for me. “Poor girl! You are going to be a teacher? Impossible! You cannot be a teacher. It is a tiring job! You are excellent, smart and hardworking. You must enroll in an engineering or a medical college. You must be an engineer or a doctor.”
Actually, I do not like to be a doctor and I hate hospitals. I avoid taking medicine or even entertain the thought of being sick. Nonetheless, because of peoples’ expectations of me, I registered in the medical college this year.
I tried to persuade myself that being a doctor is the dream of my life, but it did not work! This was not my choice, but of others.
I left the medical college to join my dream college. I loved being a teacher and I was excited to be one, so I joined the Bahrain Teachers College.
I found the content of the foundation courses much easier than what I had expected. I was a student of science at high school, especially mathematics and physics section and I graduated with a high GPA.
We took high level math and science, but when I came to college, I was surprised that the course content was the same as the primary school content level. Especially in mathematics, in the foundation year we only take the basics like addition and subtraction of numbers. That really made me sad and wonder if I had made a wrong choice.
Things soon began to take a turn as each day I entered the class, I felt that positive energy around me.
I started liking how my doctors start the class and the way they wish good morning for us.
Before the class begins, I close the door and ask everyone at home to keep quiet because I really interact and enjoy the class even though its online.
I am beginning to feel that I am really a college student and not at primary school.
I like the type of activities and work we do, and I love the feeling of having a lot of work to do as I find it all very interesting!
In one of my courses that I really enjoy, I gained the power of thinking positively, and learned how to find the bright side of everything which is something we all need to do.
A month later, I also started liking my mathematics course. It was then I recognised that we really needed these courses as we will be teachers for the primary level in future and it’s necessary to have a strong foundation.
I find it so useful to learn how to calculate without using the calculator by using different methods. To know how to develop this skill in students in their early age is truly interesting!
I really want to be a good teacher in future and encourage my students to do their best.
I recognised that I made a best decision to be a student at this college as it is the place where we learn with love and joy. I
also understood that I must follow my passion and chase my dreams. Thank you very much for everything BTC. I do believe that ‘teaching is touching’.
