VIDEO: McLaren goes green

McLaren’s first-ever series-production high-performance hybrid supercar made its Middle East debut in Bahrain today.

The unveiling ceremony of the BD98,500 McLaren Artura took place at the McLaren Tower regional HQ in Sakhir with Brett Soso, McLaren Automotive’s managing director – Europe, Middle East & Africa and Ebrahim Kanoo, director of Kanoo Motors, the marque’s official distributor in Bahrain, and other executives.

The Artura’s top speed is electronically limited to 330km/h with 0-100km/h reached in three seconds. It is designed with full plug-in hybrid capability with a range of up to 30km in pure EV mode and a top speed of 130km/h.

It can be charged to an 80 per cent level in two-and-a-half hours, and the battery pack can also harvest power from the combustion engine during driving.

The McLaren Group is part-owned by Mumtalakat, the kingdom’s sovereign wealth fund.
