SCHOEMAN GETS 2021 SEASON UNDERWAY

Henri Schoeman kicks off his racing season at the South Africa National Triathlon Championships in Bloemfontein this weekend.

The 2018 Commonwealth Games champion and 2016 Olympic bronze medalist will line up among other South African multisport stars competing for a share of the prize purse provided by the Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO) in partnership with Triathlon South Africa and Free State Triathlon.

This will be the first race for Schoeman since the PTO Championships at Challenge Daytona in December, where he finished a credible seventh amongst the greatest field of short and long course athletes assembled in recent years.

“I’m excited to kick off the season with a local race, the SA National Championships. Because of COVID they’ve made it non-draft, and I enjoy the non-drafting format. It’s also Olympic distance so that makes me even more excited,” he says. “Training has been going well and slowly picking up as racing nears. It will be interesting to see where my form is at this early in the season.”

While he has most recently tested himself at 5,000-meter and 10,000-meter track meet at home, he is looking forward to being back doing swim-bike-run and wearing the Bahrain Endurance 13 colors for the first time. Apart from the Tokyo Olympic Games, he has also targeted a wide range of races and formats from the World Triathlon Series, Super League Triathlon circuit, and Ironman 70.3.
