Improper nutrition table in food packages

“Healthy body healthy mind” is a very well-known proverb. To keep our body healthy, we need healthy food. So it is very important to know what we should eat and how much.

This may vary from person to person depending on the physical and other health conditions. Many people have diabetics, high cholesterol, high triglyceride etc. In order to control these issues, there need proper diet in addition to the physical activities. Hence, it is very important to know what should be eaten and how much. How can we do this? This can be done by identifying the food with proper nutrition information. In some food packages, this information is given for the consumer. However, it is noticed that some of the food levels are so small that it is very difficult to read. In addition, sometimes it is given in different units (i.e. % of daily values (DV) or net amount). Some examples are shown in Figure 1. Once can see that the font size is very small. It will be difficult for a person to understand. Hence, it should be written in such as a way that it is easy to read and understandable.

On the other hand, the information shouldn’t be written as daily values. It should be written in net amount since the amount of intake is different for different persons or using both % of daily values and net amount as shown in Figure 2.
