A Day in The Life of A Procrastinator

Jamal was laying on his bed looking at the ceiling, waiting for the alarm. He decided yesterday that he would change his life for the better, starting with an eight-hour sleep. He set the alarm for the exact time when his golden time of sleep would end. But he woke up early and now he was waiting for the alarm. At least he can be in the bed for the assigned time, sleeping or awake. Then the moment came when his mobile started ringing and he picked it up.

As he stopped the alarm, he saw some notifications of messages from friends and he started scrolling through them and some other apps. And just like that, half an hour went by. When he looked at the time on the corner of his mobile screen, he jumped off the bed. He was supposed to brush, take a bath and prepare his breakfast in this half an hour but he didn't do any of those things. He felt that it wasn't his fault, connecting with friends is important and other apps just help you to get updates on the latest news of the day. But what should he do now to make up the time, he has to be in the office within half an hour. Perhaps gargling, instead of brushing the teeth, and a face wash with a spray on hairs, instead of taking bath, would do for today.

Afterward, he came into the kitchen for breakfast. A healthy breakfast helps you start your day strong. As he opened the fridge, he remembered that he was supposed to do grocery shopping yesterday. But he felt too tired to do it. Now he had no milk, butter, bread or anything else to fulfill his goal of a healthy breakfast. He saw a piece of leftover pizza that he couldn't eat last night. Pizza is as healthy as it can get, Jamal thought. So he ate it after heating it in the oven. There was no coffee as well, so he would have to get the worst coffee of the world from that coffee shop at the corner of his street, YET AGAIN. I must do grocery shopping today, at least to have a decent cup of coffee in the morning. Then he went to his wardrobe and started looking for a shirt and pair of pants which would look the least messier. He got his work cut out doing that in the jungle-like wardrobe. He had planned many a time to rearrange his wardrobe but something always came up and his plans get delayed. Even last night, he intended to at least iron the clothes for today but couldn't do so as it was getting late. "Let me pick a dark-colored shirt and a pair of jeans, nobody would notice the wrinkles", he thought.

He went to his car and started it, his eyes went to the fuel indicator which was showing a blinking last bar since last morning. Not refueling would be a risk, so he went to the fuel station which was crowded at that time. He got his fuel after being in the queue for 15 minutes, which meant that he was late reaching his office, AS ALWAYS. As he got there, he hurriedly went to his desk, which was directly in front of the glass wall of his boss's cabin. He could see him having a glance towards him but he did not show any reaction today. As per Jamal's experience, this was dangerous. Because this is the same thing that happened before he got fired from his last job. Why can't bosses just neglect these little issues?

He tried to concentrate on his work, but how could someone do so without having a proper breakfast or even a decent coffee. After about half an hour of forcing himself, he got up and went towards the coffee machine. He found a couple of friends there and they exchanged some pleasantries after which they went back to their desks but he stayed there till he finished his coffee. He wanted to be relaxed while drinking coffee which he could not do with the pile of work on his desk.

When he came back, there was an hour left for lunch. He did some work during that time and then went to the cafe. His philosophy was not to do eat in a hurry, so naturally, he was the last employee to leave from there. He labored for the rest of the day, with the help of two additional coffee breaks.

He left the office feeling too tired to go anywhere else, so he picked up a meal from a fast-food joint and went home. He ate, watched some TV, then he picked up the phone to connect with his social media, and just like that, it was 11pm. He quickly went to bed and crashed on it. As his eyes closed, he was thinking about how he would wake up early tomorrow and set up everything straight.
