The Hamster wheel of life

Are you finding mental satisfaction in your work environment, or are you just going through the motions? Like, getting up, going to a job where things are the same with no challenges, returning home, watching Netflix or YouTube, and going off to sleep? If that is the pattern you follow each day, then you are running on the hamster wheel of life. It's time to ask yourself two questions every weekend - “Where am I?" and "What do I do next?" - to remain proactive in life. These two queries will help you to get self-centred in your life. The first question is indeed a self-reflective one. To answer this, you must know yourself, -" Who are you?" and "What do you want from life?”. You yourself should figure out whether you are on a hamster wheel. You need to pause, reflect, and figure out whether you are fulfilling your life journey.

Follow your heart and not the mass. Many people feel trapped in a hamster wheel because they suppress their passion as they are bothered by what others think of them. If you do not put your heart into a job, it will feel like a burden. Moreover, your brain will act adamant and won't show any interest in knowing the functioning of different departments.

For example, someone is passionate about teaching and finds a job after many rounds of interviews. With a lot of enthusiasm, they will join the post and prepare daily and teach in an exemplary manner. Later, they are given more responsibilities such as conducting meetings between departments organising cultural events, participating in technical projects or exhibitions, and attending different training courses as part of the job. So one has to extend the ability from teaching to team management. In this case, the person whose role is a teacher is getting stretched to the role of a manager or a team leader. This stretching is not meant to break you; instead, it will mould you into a multi-skilled person. You will be allowed to interact with employees from different departments and be exposed to numerous behaviours.

Instead, if the candidate becomes stubborn and refrains from taking up other responsibilities, they forfeit the opportunity to unveil the power that lies within.

Have you ever thought about why life is stuck on a hamster wheel? The reasons are pretty evident : fear and habit. The newcomers who enter the organisation may fear the management and always follow the pattern. If they try to question the same, they will be told, “It has always been this way." The out-of-box thoughts are then stopped, and they too enter the crowd. Instead, the employees should be allowed to voice their sensible views and illustrate how their idea benefits the organisation's growth.

Once we enter a passionate career, we should be open to learning by attending trainings or workshops and reading books. This will carry you to more significant heights in life.

Stay proactive !  Stay creative !
