Bus Stop

It was raining. Making the streets look polished and reflective, almost like there was another city beneath them.
Most of the cars driving by were cautious not to go too fast and risk skidding their cars on the slippery surface.

A boy, fully soaked from the rain, stood under the canopy of a bus stop.
He had spent his day at an event that was near his school where his classmates were gathered. They asked that he come and bring his football and yu gi oh playing cards. He first declined the offer, saying that if he missed the school bus and joined them, there would be no way for him to get home. "It'll be fine. My dad can take you when he picks me up." one of his classmates said hastly.
The boy agreed, excited at the idea of hanging out with friends and having a good time. He rarely ever got to experience those moments. Growing up, nobody really wanted to be friends with him, which made him awkward, which in turn made no one want to be friends with him.
But this time people knew he had a football and some cards, and now all wanted his attention.
So he joined his classmates as they took the football and began playing on an open field. The boy tried to keep up with their game but was too slow and overweight to properly play with them. Eventually, one of his classmates walked up to him, saying, "You look tired. You should sit down and watch us play"
He wasn't tired, but he sat down.

Minutes later, one of his classmates kicked the ball so hard, causing it to burst and letting all its air out.
"Sorry." A classmate would say before handing him what remained of the football.
Later, his classmates would just take an empty bottle of water, fill it with sand, and continue their game.
Then they took the boy's yu gi oh and played for 4 minutes before having half of the cards fly away due to the wind and the other half being soaked in juice that one of the children dropped by accident.
"Sorry." the classmate would say again, handing him what remained of the cards.
Later, his classmates took out pieces of paper and began playing tic, tac, toe.

When it came time to leave, the classmate who was supposed to take him home exclaimed, "Sorry. But my dad says he can't take you."

And now the boy sat under a canopy. Cold in the rain, that'll probably leave him with a fever the next day.

"Ah." The boy let out a breath after being startled by a black cat that he noticed hiding under the bench beside him

The boy smiled and let out a hand to try and pet the cat but was stopped by that cat's hiss.
The cat backed further into the corner, making it clear that she was only here to be protected from the rain.

The black cat had been with a group that was out hunting, and after she managed to kill a pigeon, her group began devouring its carcass, leaving nothing left for her.
After a few hours, the cat realised that she was in desperate need of something, anything to eat, so she left her group as they were resting comfortably with their bellies full.

The boy pulled his hand back in fear and disappointment. He really wished the kitty liked him.
He then examined the cat and noticed her ribs being visible and the pain of hunger in her eyes, so he opened his lunch box and found remnants of chicken from a sandwich he had at recess and threw them down.
The cat quickly, almost too quickly, ate the pieces. She then looked up at the boy and then began purring and rubbing her body around the boy's feet.
The boy giggled and pet the cat's head before the bus came.
The boy looked at the bus with uncertainty. He wanted to stay with the kitty and have this…this bus stop to be his life. But he was old enough to know at least that life isn't just a bus stop in the rain or a grateful cat.
So he walked away and into the bus, holding his head down in sadness. As he entered his home, his mother would ask him, "Where were you?"

"Hanging out with friends."

"Oh. How was it?"

Before entering his room, he would reply, "It was fine."
