Emotional wellbeing and Mental Health of children

Most of us are aware of the Solomon island’s story of trees, its hard to believe that plants have emotion, but this story proves that trees have emotion. The tribes in that area use just words to bring down a healthy huge tree. This shows how important Mental health is for us. Emotional well-being leads to a healthy Mental life.

Understanding Children Mental Health and Emotional Needs:

Let us begin by understanding the emotions in kids. When a child is born the only emotional attachment, they receive is from their parents’ mother’s and father’s touch and warmth which makes them feel safe and secure. Later in a toddler stage they understand love, care and affections with their family members.

When the child starts going to playgroup and stays away from family they face their first fear, most of the kids cry and take time to accept the changes happening, at this stage a teacher helps the child to handle fear and makes the child understand world around them by teaching them new things.

During schooling a child meets friends, starts socializing and make relationships. They feel happy, wonderful, joyful, empathy, sympathy, sad, fear, worried, jealous, angry, scared, love, care, hatred, sorrow, and many more all through these emotional stages’ kids try to handle them alone or with a friend.

But study says if children are given a proper knowledge about their emotions and teach them to handle it, they build their confidence which leads to their emotional well-being and healthy mind.

How can we help children understand their emotional needs for happy mind:

Here are some of the activities for a Happy and Healthy Mind in
Children:

1. The best way to help a child is to connect with them as a
parent, teacher or care giver. This will happen by talking
to them, letting them express and allowing them to
understand their feeling and building their trust in you.

2. Helping them do some physical exercise yoga will be
helpful or enrolling them into their favorite sport
activity.

3. Help them in developing a hobby like painting, coloring,
crochet, craft work, gardening, journaling, cooking etc.

4. Discovering what makes them happy and supporting
them in doing more of that.

5. Teaching them stress and anger managing techniques
will help kids handle these emotions better.
