This weekend sees the return of the prestigious Muscat Open.
The tournament, now in its 49th year, will feature two rounds of 18 hole stroke-play competition. This is the oldest running amateur event in Oman and the GCC region, and a signature event for the club. The event has always attracted top amateur golfers from Oman, including Oman National team players as well as members from other GCC nations; who will all be vying for the title of Muscat Open Champion.
Once again, this year’s event is over-subscribed. 88 of the best players in the country will be looking to dethrone reigning champion and course record holder Azaan Al Ruhmny.
An event of this scale cannot go ahead without the continued support of Petroleum Development Oman and our generous sponsors. Thanks to platinum sponsors Bank Muscat, Hydro and OHI. Gold sponsors CMS and Mohsin Haider Darwish. Silver sponsors Anantara and Seven Seas and bronze sponsors Al Tasmin, Milly’s Golf Society and Oman Shapoorji.
Continued development and improvements on and off the course including the new driving range and practice facilities, coupled with the support of the sponsors means this year’s event looks set to be one of the biggest and best to date.
“We are thrilled to, once again, host this exciting golf tournament and look forward to welcoming players from all over Oman,” said Jas Dhanju, tournament president. “This event is a great opportunity for some of the best golfers in the country to come together, compete and have fun.”
This year’s event is extra special as it sees the launch of the Muscat Ladies Open and the Muscat Junior Open. Carlos Moreno, RAHGC vice-captain and member of the Muscat Open organising committee, said “the inaugural Open competitions for ladies and juniors is a very important milestone for the club. This gives everyone a chance to play and compete, whilst also inspiring young golfers to become the best they can be.”.
