Bahrain to host major education exhibition

TOP international institutions will take part in a major education exhibition taking place in Bahrain this week.

The three-day Global Higher Education Exhibition (GHEDEX) will be held in the kingdom from Monday at the Exhibition World Bahrain.

It will be held under the patronage of Education Minister and Higher Education Council (HEC) board of trustees’ chairman Dr Mohammed Mubarak Juma.

Reputed higher education institutions will outline their academic programmes to students.

Technical Education and Vocational Training Exhibition, International Conference on Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and the GHEDEX Awards for Excellence in Higher Education will also be held on the sidelines.

The exhibition is organised for the first time in Bahrain by the Omani Company for International Trade and Exhibitions Group in Bahrain. It has been held previously in many countries, including Oman and Kuwait.

Tourism Minister Fatima Al Sairafi met HEC secretary general and its board of trustees deputy chairperson Dr Shaikha Rana bint Isa bin Duaij Al Khalifa, and Oman International Trade and Exhibitions CEO Amr Abdullah Baabood.

The minister was briefed about the company’s preparations to organise the exhibition and the events to be held on its sidelines, the expo of technical education and training, a conference on ‘Innovations and entrepreneurship at Bahraini schools and colleges’ and the GHEDEX Awards for Excellence in Education.

She stressed the importance of specialised events in shedding light on the academic opportunities provided by higher education institutions in the kingdom.

Ms Al Sairafi also highlighted the keenness of the ministry to continue working with all partners in order to develop the educational tourism sector in the kingdom, to attract more students to Bahrain, given the importance of the student tourists, who may stay for a long period, accompany members of their families to Bahrain and become permanent tourist ambassadors to the kingdom even after completing their studies.

She stressed that attracting qualitative exhibitions contributes to supporting the efforts of exhibition and conference tourism, as one of the important pillars of the kingdom’s tourism strategy for 2022-2026.

The minister noted the importance of this type of tourism in developing the sector and supporting the economy.
