Bahrain cruise past Singapore


Bahrain had a great start to their campaign in the ACC Men’s Premier Cup winning the opener against Singapore by a whopping 132 runs.

Bahrain scored a formidable total of 286 for eight in 50 overs and, in reply, the Singapore innings folded for 154 runs in 43.1 overs at the TU grounds in Nepal.

Shahbaz Bader played a masterful innings for Bahrain, scoring 76 runs off 98 balls with eight fours and a six. He was later named the man of the match.

Meanwhile, Fiaz Ahmed carried the second part of the innings with an excellent 79 off 59 balls with nine fours as well as a six. Sohail Ahmed came close to his half century, scoring 46 runs in 80 runs.

The bowlers also played their part commendably with Imran Anwar picking up four wickets giving away 24 runs in nine overs with an economy rate of 2.66. Rizwan Butt took three wickets in 9.1 overs including two maidens giving away 38 runs. Abdul Majid grabbed two wickets and Ali Dawood claimed one.

Bahrain are scheduled to play Kuwait today.

The Asian Cricket Council Premier Cup pits 10 of the region’s best-emerging teams in 50-over action in Nepal as the final step in qualification for the Asia Cup 2023.

The 10 teams are split into two groups for the tournament where Oman, Qatar, Malaysia and Saudi Arabia are in Group A with hosts Nepal while Bahrain are in Group B alongside UAE, Hong Kong, Kuwait and Singapore. The teams will battle it out in Kathmandu for a spot in the semi-finals followed by a final that will decide the last remaining qualification spot at the Asia Cup 2023.
