Sitra breeze past Budaiya

Sitra kept their title hopes alive after a 3-1 victory over Budaiya in a 20th round match of the Nasser Bin Hamad Premier League last night.

Last night’s victory lifted Sitra to the second spot with 37 points, two behind leaders Manama, while Budaiya continue to languish at the bottom of the standings.

Sedina fired from outside the penalty area to put Sitra ahead in the 22nd minute while Badr Bashir extended their lead in the 35th minute. Sitra’s Mishaal Al Shammari found the back of the net in the 43rd minute as they took a commanding 3-0 lead at half-time. Budaiya managed to reduce the margin with their lone goal of the match in the 74th minute.

Meanwhile, Manama retained their lead after a 1-1 draw with Muharraq in another match played last night.

After a cautious start, Manama found their feet in the second half with Moosa Ahmed putting them ahead in the 69th minute. Muharraq, however, recovered quickly from the setback as Victor Arboleda scored the equaliser six minutes later.

Manama are on 39 points while Muharraq, on 36, occupy the third position.

Al Khaldiya will look to boost their title chances with a victory tonight against Al Hala. Al Khaldiya, currently on 35 points, could move to the second position if they manage to beat Al Hala tonight. Riffa take on East Riffa in another game tonight. Both matches are scheduled to start at 6.45pm.
