Scream
Accepting her non existence, yet acing her daily chores, attending to all and sundry and adding years to her otherwise monotonous life, this was her routine. There was an unheard, unfulfilled scream in her rib cage wriggling to step out. But that wasn’t the reason of her frustration right now.
Almost choking her, the deep gurgle in her throat didn’t release. Flailing her arms to catch attention and frustrated at being ignored,she was perspiring with anxiety.She wanted to scream but failed.
She once again focused on the soundless intermittent crawl on the wall,
“this despicable creature,”she mumbled.
Harmless predator creeping towards the self proclaimed victim as the victim froze.
The victim’s eyes darted for a prop to scare the impending danger.
A housewife’s best friend, so they say ..
With no intentions of befriending her nemesis, she thought of a zillion plans in a minute. Those minute eyes on the wall seemed to follow her every move.
Once again her attempt to scream was met with a failure.
Everyone was aware of her dislike for this quiet,hibernating,uninvited guest in her kitchen or her house to be precise.
There was no history of a previous attack or an injury. It was just an unexplained yet undoubted enmity here.
Eventually after a few minutes of Cold War the silent predator, a lizard, just disappeared from sight .
“Where does she hide ? When will she reappear to disrupt the bonhomie of my daily chores?”
With these unanswered questions, heaving a temporary sigh of relief,her attention was now diverted to the only other human in the house who was trying desperately to creep out of the sight and house,too.
It was his turn to ‘ dare to glare back at me’
contest. They both knew the uncrowned winner of this match.
But none of the contestants were aware of the decibels of the scream that followed thereafter!
He rushed to supermarket to pick up the lizard repellent. He didn’t want to postpone this for later in the evening.
Discretion is a better part of the valor!
