Recent reports indicate an alarming rise in heart attack cases among individuals below the age of 40–45 in Bahrain. While multiple factors such as work-related stress and sedentary lifestyles contribute to this trend, dietary habits appear to be a significant and often overlooked cause. The widespread consumption of fast food, oily meals, and irregular eating patterns — particularly late-night dining — are putting young lives at risk.
A major area of concern is the repeated use of low-quality oil for deep frying in many food outlets. This practice drastically increases the intake of harmful trans fats, leading to long-term cardiovascular issues. As a proactive step, I strongly recommend that health authorities conduct regular and unannounced inspections of restaurants and food establishments, specifically focusing on cooking practices and oil quality. Ensuring compliance with food safety standards is not just a regulatory matter — it is a vital move to protect public health and prevent further loss of young lives.
