Alba marks National Tree Week with environmental commitment

Alba marked ‘National Tree Week’, launched by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, with a tree-planting activity led by chief executive officer Ali Al Baqali at Power Station 5 area.

The initiative underscored the smelter’s commitment to planting 6,000 trees annually – within and beyond its premises – in support of Bahrain’s national goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2060.

Since launching its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Roadmap in 2022, Alba has planted more than 7,000 trees on its own property and more than 16,000 trees outside its facilities through community programmes.

These external efforts include reclaiming farmland, installing irrigation systems and planting trees on major roads and at local organisations and charities.

Additionally, the Alba Mangrove Nursery is currently nurturing 15,000 seedlings that will be transplanted to key national reserves, supporting Bahrain’s objective to quadruple mangrove coverage by 2035.
