Stress challenge

Emotional burnout has become a growing systemic challenge that requires institutions to rethink prevailing work patterns and adopt comprehensive, organisation-wide solutions, Gulf University’s professor of psychiatry Dr Ahmed Malallah Al Ansari has said.

Dr Al Ansari noted that the World Health Organisation has classified emotional burnout in the International Classification of Diseases as a syndrome resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed.

He was speaking during a lecture, Job Burnout in the Workplace’, organised by the Arabian Gulf University Centre for Consultations and Training in co-operation with the College of Medicine and Health Sciences.

Dr Al Ansari pointed out that recent statistics show that approximately 76 per cent of employees experience emotional burnout at least occasionally, while 28pc suffer from burnout on a permanent or recurring basis.
