Eid Al Fitr this year is expected to coincide with the spring equinox in a rare astronomical alignment.
According to astronomical researcher Mohammed Al Asfoor, the moon of Shawwal (crescent) will be visible on Thursday.
He pointed out that in the evening, the sun will set at 5.48pm, and the crescent moon, signaling the end of Ramadan and start of Eid, will be visible at 6.18pm. It will remain visible for about 30 minutes after sunset, with an illumination of around 0.5 per cent.
