Happiness is a State of Mind

As long as our reasons for why we had a good day are lists of external conditions, then we are not going to have stable happiness that we all want. Because we cannot control people and circumstances every single day, and if that's what our happiness depends upon, then it will be in the hands of others, it will be at the whim of our circumstances.

I learned this not completely by myself, but through others who are really happy and their teachings, and their experiences, and mine too.

So, if you really wish to have a good day, everyday, you got two things - you need to stop outsourcing your happiness and outsourcing your unhappiness on the people and circumstances. In other words, we need to stop attributing our happiness to what's going on externally and we need to stop blaming others, especially blaming others for our unhappiness. Your second job is actively cultivate a source of peace, a source of happiness, inside your own mind, for “happiness and unhappiness are states of mind and therefore their real causes cannot be found outside the mind.”

Happiness lies within you, stop searching it outside, in things, in people, in power. Stop asking for it!
