Parliament’s chairwoman joins efforts to impose partial curfew

Parliament chairwoman Fouzia Zainal has signed her name on an urgent proposal to enforce partial curfew, the GDNonline news team revealed tonight.

The proposal, which is planned for debate in Parliament tomorrow, aims to limit the spread of Covid-19 in the country.

Ms Zainal's signature means the proposal will be brought forward as a priority during the session.

It was submitted yesterday by two committee chairmen, MPs Hamad Al Kooheji and Ahmed Al Salloom, who highlighted its urgency given multiple violations of directives issued for people to remain at home.

The proposal suggests implementing a curfew from 6pm until 5am.
