The dolphins have returned to Portugal

Dolphins have returned to Portugal and are splashing around in Lisbon’s shores- Reuters.

A social media user spotted a group of dolphins jumping around in the Tagus River and posted a video of it.

Though dolphins have been sighted in the Tagus since Roman times, the mammals were no longer seen often, according to a 2015 report by the Sea School and the Marine Science Association in Lisbon.

However, over the past two months, social media channels have inundated with images and videos of dolphins leaping out of the waves.

According to Lisbon’s mayor, the river is gaining new life and a friendly family of dolphins with the improvement of water quality.

Marine biologist Francisco Martinho, who specialises in dolphins, said that because the river has become more peaceful, the dolphins are spending more time there. And, it’s also because there are more fish than usual for them to eat.
