Covid-19 - Bahrain Update

Public facilities that have resumed operations will be shut if people are reckless and do not follow Covid-19 guidelines.

The warning came from Health Ministry Under-Secretary Dr Waleed Al Manea.

He was addressing a Press conference along with National Taskforce for Combating Coronavirus (Covid 19) monitoring committee head Lieutenant Colonel Dr Manaf Al Qahtani and taskforce member and Salmaniya Medical Complex Infectious and Internal Diseases consultant Dr Jameela Al Salman.

People have been urged to strictly follow regulations in gyms, pools and sport facilities.

“If reckless we may see the closure of these facilities,” said Dr Al Manea.

Bahrain is continuing its efforts at all levels in order to combat the coronavirus.

“Bahrain along with various Gulf, regional and international partners are co-operating, especially in the field of research and knowledge exchange, to confront the virus.

“Bahrain is participating in the third phase of clinical trials for a vaccine for the virus, in co-operation with the Abu Dhabi-based G42 company.

“The clinical trials come within the framework of the partnership between the G42 company and the Chinese National Biotech Group, a subsidiary of the Chinese pharmaceutical company, Sinopharma, the sixth largest vaccine producer in the world.”

National Taskforce for Combating Coronavirus (Covid 19) monitoring committee head Lieutenant Colonel Dr Manaf Al Qahtani gave details of the vaccine trials being conducted in the country.

“The vaccine is an inactivated vaccine, meaning that it is inactive and does not cause infection with the virus.

“This vaccine will not cause Covid-19 by any means, but will create immunity by way of antibodies.”

National Taskforce for Combating Coronavirus (Covid 19) member and Salmaniya Medical Complex Infectious and Internal Diseases consultant Dr. Jameela Al Salman highlighted the importance of continuing all efforts “with determination to preserve the health and safety of everyone”.

“We have a gradual plan to reopen establishments through stages, with safety and health of citizen in mind.

“Co-existing with the virus means to do it smartly by following directions and guidelines.”

The high number of tests is one of the indicators of success in combating the virus, she said.

“The number of random tests increased which helps in early detection.

“Symptomatic people are urged to call 444 and if listed as contacts they will be called from the team and must adhere to home isolation for 10 days and exit test is important.”

Bahrain has conducted 923,342 tests till date.
