Bahrain, represented by the Bahrain Red Crescent Society, celebrated World Humanitarian Day along with the rest of the globe on August 19.
It was marked this year under the slogan "Real-Life Heroes," as a tribute to the humanitarian workers around the world.
Dr Fawzi Amin, member of the board of directors of BRCS, said: "The Bahrain Red Crescent Society is the pioneer of the humanitarian work in the kingdom, but we see that the human legacy in Bahrain consists of the sum of all humanitarian work provided by all bodies, societies and charitable funds, regardless of the year of their establishment as the humanitarian field is extensive and accommodates everyone."
The BRCS was established in 1971 and was internationally recognised on September 14, 1972 by the International Committee of the Red Cross in Geneva.
It joined the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in the same year. The Society aims to contribute with its counterparts in the International Movement of the Red Cross and Red Crescent to alleviate human suffering, provide social and humanitarian aid, work to spread the principles of the International Red Crescent and Red Cross Movement, train and qualify volunteers for humanitarian work following the movement's policies, and contribute to spreading international humanitarian law in providing services and assistance to the needy.
