Bahrain has achieved the highest drop in road fatalities and injuries in the region thanks to the new traffic safety strategy.
Accident-related deaths and injuries decreased by 35 per cent from 2020 until last month.
According to traffic data, the overall number of fatalities and wounds resulting from accidents plummeted by 60pc from 2015 until 2020.
General Directorate of Traffic director general Brigadier Shaikh Abdulrahman bin Abdulwahab Al Khalifa said the strategy bore fruit, enhancing road safety tangibly.
“Traffic fatalities and injuries dropped although the overall number of vehicles countrywide soared by 21pc,” he said.
While the construction of new cities, including Salman, East Hidd and Khalifa towns, and investment islands increased traffic, it did not lead to a spike in accident fatalities and injuries.
