
A number of events are lined up as part of celebrations marking 50 years of diplomatic relations between Bahrain and India starting tomorrow.
The week-long programmes that will run until October 19 will be showcased at the Little India Square in Bab Al Bahrain.
Following is the schedule of events:
October 12: Lighting of the Bab Al Bahrain at 5.45pm followed by band performances at the Little India Square.
October 12 and 13: Traditional folklore performance by Indian artist Jaywant Naidu, at 8pm, at the Cultural Hall. Mr Naidu, the creator of an unique musical innovation, has been awarded ‘Design Patent’ by Kolkata’s Patents Controller. He will be accompanied by a group of musicians.
October 13: Lecture in English on Bahrain-India relationships honouring the past, inspiring the future by Thattai Hindu Merchants Community president Bob Thaker, at 7pm at the Bahrain National Museum auditorium.
October 15: Little India Photo Walk at 5pm near Bab Al Bahrain. Participants can take part in the paid event (BD5 per person) clicking pictures as they tour from Bal Al Bahrain information centre to the Little India Square.
October 16: Hand block printing workshop by Design Kala founder and artist Kavita Sharma from 10am to 12.30pm and 4pm to 6pm at the Art Centre, Manama. The session is open to participants aged over 16 and will be charged BD25 per person.
October 17: Lecture in Arabic (with English interpretation) on diplomacy and trade relations between Bahrain and India by Bahraini researcher and businessman Yousuf Salahuddin at 7pm at the Bahrain National Museum auditorium
The Little India Square programmes will run throughout the week (October 12 to 19) from 6pm to 9pm as below:
October 12: Mohamed bin Faris Band.
October 13: Beatz of Bahrain (Drums) – community folk dance.
October 14: Traditional Maharashtrian performances – Lavani Dance, Lezim Dance by women and men with live dhol (drums).
October 15: Indian traditional dance by Kannada Sangha Bahrain and Shabab Alriffa Band.
October 16: Traditional Indian dance by the Telugu Kala Samithi and Dar Alriffa Al Oda.
October 17: Traditional Indian dance by Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam and classical Indian music concert.
October 18: Ismail Dawwas Band.
October 19: Shabab Al Hidd Band.
