The recent increase in vegetable prices is temporary due to unstable weather as well as logistical issues in exporting countries, revealed the Industry, Commerce and Tourism Ministry.
In a statement today, it reassured the public that it continues to ensure the availability and flow of food commodities in a sustainable manner at reasonable prices for all customers.
Officials followed up reports on social media regarding high prices of vegetables such as cucumbers and bell peppers and an investigation revealed that it was due to a lack of production, weather impact and logistical problems.
“The ministry is keen to make the prices of basic food commodities accessible to everyone through rounds of supervision and inspection in addition to continuous consultation with market traders in order to achieve a balance between supply and demand in the local market,” said the statement.
“We reassure the public that the scarcity of these products is temporary and the flow will resume as usual in the coming period at the appropriate prices.”
