Roman River, ridden by Edinson Rodrigues, clinched The Hawar Cup, the first Bahrain Turf Series race yesterday at the Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) in a thrilling finish with Dark Shadow.
The two horses fought it out over the final metres of the 1200 metres straight course with Roman River just getting the better of Dark Shadow, ridden by Neil Callan, by a nose in a photo finish.
Local trainers Allan Smith and Hesham Al Haddad dominated the event with Smith-trained Roman River making it three wins in the series.
