Dance celebration at Indian Club

The Indian Club will be staging a Disco Dandiya Night tomorrow at its premises in Gudaibiya with celebrity entertainer DJ Aapka Paresh mixing the music from 8pm.

Best Dancer Male / Female, Best Child Dancer, Best Couple Dancers, Best Group Dancers (six maximum), plus many more spot prizes, will keep the crowd on its toes.

Dandiya is a traditional folk dance celebration of Gujarat and is associated with scenes of ‘Holi’, ‘Krishna’ and ‘Radha’ and more than 1,000 participants are expected to turn up for the event.

The Dandiya Dance itself originated as a devotional Garba dance, performed in Goddess Durga’s honour. The dance is actually a mock fight between the Goddess Durga and Mahishasura, the demon-king and is known as ‘The Sword Dance’, with traditional Dandiya sticks being used to represent the sword of the Goddess Durga.

The Dandiya event is free for club members, with a BD2 entry price for guests and BD1 for school children.
