Blooming lovely show

The Bahrain Garden Club, a team of enthusiastic horticulturists, engineers and ardent gardeners, recently staged an autumn show at its premises in Juffair.
The event, held under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad, featured a display of miniature gardens in containers, exotic succulents and cacti and an array of air plants that absorb water and nutrients through leaves instead of roots.
Local flora and handpicked seeds as well as perennial plants, most of which were propagated in the home gardens of members, as well as varieties of aquatic plants such as water hyacinths and typha grass from their pond-gardens were also on show.
Earth worm castings which are termed as ‘black gold’ and considered as one of the richest garden fertiliser and top dressing, and Rain lily bulbs were the most appreciated by visitors, said organisers.
Cakes made by children, paintings and posters, along with handmade soaps and oils and crochet art were among the other items on show.
The event was a part of a programme to reach out to the community of keen gardeners to spread green awareness.
Club Chairwoman, Zahra Abdul Malik said: “As organisers, we are always glad to get introduced to new budding gardening enthusiasts and they are most welcome at the club to enhance their gardening skills”.
The club has been contributing to the development of the kingdom’s agricultural sector with an outstanding track record in preserving environmental resources, encouraging tree planting and promoting agricultural awareness, while supporting eco-friendly uses, for more than 50 years.
