Cherry Tree Trotting!

Stepped out for one of my favourite charitable events in Bahrain this morning ... the 2020 Cherry Tree Trot.

For the first time I took part in the 8km run which turned out to be on a course set out twice round the Bahrain International Circuit!

As a F1 race fan the track looks fairly level when sat in the stand but in reality there’s some challenging slopes when you are pounding the path.

Great support from fellow runners and there was one Asian fella running all the way in his normal shoes.

I don’t know whether he has forgotten his trainers or couldn’t afford a pair. I didn’t get to check as he sped past me on the first run round the circuit. If it’s the latter, I hope he gets in touch with me, via this page, and I’ll buy him a well deserved comfortable pair to go jogging in.

I loved running up the home straight serenaded by the music played by the wonderful Bahrain Police Band.

This is one of the oldest and largest events on Bahrain’s annual charity calendar.

The Cherry Tree Trot (CTT) takes place biannually and attracts both able-bodied and physically and mentally challenged participants.

The event was organised by the American Women’s Association (AWA), and the turnout was thoroughly deserved.

The event attracted around 2,000 people, amongst them representatives of around 30 charities.

“The beauty about this race is that it is not about the people running the race – it is about the people the race is for,” one of the organisers said.

The AWA has raised and annually distributed around BD25,000 to good causes, including societies helping the blind, elderly, migrants and those with autism.
Well done everyone.
