What a fight! Bahrain’s national boxing coach’s verdict

Bahrain's national boxing coach Tony Davis was delighted that fellow Brit Tyson Fury now holds the WBC crown following an epic display of power, grit and determination.

Davis, a former ABA senior light heavyweight champion, arrived in the kingdom in December last year after sensationally quitting GB Boxing, the elite level of the amateur game in the UK, to take up his new coaching role.

Fury delivered a dominant performance in his heavyweight championship bout with Deontay Wilder, overwhelming his opponent to earn a seventh round TKO victory in Las Vegas.

"I thought he put in an excellent display,” said Davis. ‘"He did exactly what he said he'd do - applied pressure right from the first bell and forced Wilder on the back foot.

"This display will project Tyson up with the greats and Wilder will have to recover psychologically after this defeat in order to come back."

Now the 'whole world wants to see' a unification fight between Fury and Anthony Joshua, another British boxer who holds all the remaining heavyweight belts.

“This, however, will have to scramble through the promotional politics,” added Davis.

Meanwhile, Bahrain’s brave band of boxers have their sights set on Olympic glory and travel to Jordan for qualifying bouts tomorrow.

And excitement is growing over the ‘Rumble at the Bahrain Rugby Football Club’ fight night on March 26 with business sponsorship packages available.

Davis has also set up Bahrain to box British Army fighters in London in June. Bahrain Boxing Federation comes under the umbrella of the Bahrain Combat Sports Council.
