New initiative reaches out to needy families

The Supreme Council for Women (SCW) has started field work as part of its ‘Together for the Safety of Bahrain’ initiative, the GDN reported today.

Basic commodities and health supplies were distributed to families supported by the council, based on its list of needy households.

The initiative also aims to support families of medical personnel who are on the frontline to combat the coronavirus.

Volunteers registered on a national platform took part in the distribution, along with Bahrain Scout Society.

Eleven teams headed to different areas of Bahrain on buses provided by Al Mansouri Company and Bahrain Mobility International Centre.

An operation centre was set up at the SCW headquarters in Riffa to stock items and disinfect parcels before distributing them.

Apart from extending a helping hand to needy families during these exceptional circumstances, the initiative also provides urgent aid and services, family guidance and legal consultancy, in addition to economic support to ensure women benefit from the government’s financial packages to continue their business activities.

The campaign also provides educational support to enable families to cope with online learning requirements.

The campaign was launched following directives from Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty King Hamad and SCW president.
