Covid-19 Bahrain Update Report

THIRTY new cases of Covid-19 were recorded in the country yesterday, with seven more recoveries, the GDN’s Ghazi Alshehabi reports.

This brings the total number of active cases to 281, of which three remain in critical condition.

Seven more people were also discharged from isolation and treatment facilities yesterday, bringing the number of recoveries to 388.

The Health Ministry yesterday said that of the new cases, 22 were of citizens coming from Iran, while four were arrivals from other countries and three were through contact with existing cases.

An additional 35 cases were also released from quarantine facilities yesterday after completing the precautionary 14-day period.

The ministry said last night that this was done after the individuals completed the necessary quarantine period and the medical teams conducted all laboratory tests to ensure their safety and freedom from the coronavirus.

The total number of those who have left the precautionary quarantine has reached 507 so far.

Meanwhile, statistics released by the Health Ministry yesterday showed that contact tracing is underway after a Bahraini man tested positive during random screenings for the coronavirus.

Contact tracing is still ongoing to uncover who the 40-year-old man has come in touch with.

The ministry also said that the man has no relevant travel history to speak of.

It added yesterday that the man, who has been designated case 505, tested positive as part of a campaign to obtain random samples from the community.

In a statement issued yesterday the ministry said that it would continue its random screenings in a number of places all over Bahrain in co-operation with the Interior Ministry.

The GDN previously reported that teams from both ministries have set up sample collection stations in Bab Al Bahrain, Durrat Al Bahrain and Budaiya, where teams collected samples through mobile screening units.

The ministry said that the specialised medical team, which includes volunteers from the National Campaign to Combat the Coronavirus, took random samples from older people and people with susceptibility to the virus for laboratory tests in mobile screening units.

They also collected samples from hypermarkets, groceries, cold stores, bakeries and pharmacies in order to preserve their safety and that of their families and all citizens and residents.
