Among the new cases of Covid-19 registered in the country are 31 expat workers from a labour camp in Salmabad, Raji Unnikrishnan reported for GDNonline tonight.
The Health Ministry said the men tested positive while in quarantine in the Sitra facility.
"After laboratory tests confirmed positive the men were moved to treatment and isolation facilities for Covid-19," it added.
The ministry reiterated the men were earlier quarantined in their residence, and that there was no spread of the virus amongst migrant workers.
Meanwhile, seven more people have been discharged from treatment and isolation facilities for Covid-19.
This takes the total number of recoveries to 458.
The number of active cases currently in the country are 294, of which four are critical. The total number of people tested in the country is 47,684.
- Earlier, Mohammed Al A’ali reported that an urgent proposal to conduct inspection and disinfection work at labour camps across the country is set for debate in Parliament.
The proposal was submitted following the discovery of a 36-year-old Bangladeshi, who tested positive for Covid-19 and infected 15 others of the same nationality living with him.
It is being spearheaded by five MPs, led by Ebrahim Al Nefaei, and will be debated tomorrow.
"Hopefully this is a one-off scenario, but things need to be addressed through inspections and disinfection of labour camps and accommodations," said Mr Al Nefaei.
The proposal also calls for the Health Ministry, the Interior Ministry and the Labour Market Regulatory Authority to start work immediately.
Mobile units have been conducting random tests for the coronavirus across the country.
